Educating for the Future

The learning journey at Our Lady of the Way honours the developmental stages in a student’s life. Based on leading educational research and the best of today’s technologies, we prepare students for the future by teaching them how to think critically and creatively, how to communicate effectively and how to lead and work both independently and collaboratively.

Celebrating faith at Our Lady of the Way Catholic Primary Emu Plains
Learning at Our Lady of the Way uses flexible, innovative and creative teaching practices, coupled with modern technology and engaging learning spaces to motivate our students to become the best learners they can be.

We know that each student is different, so we meet each student where they are at and challenge him or her to maximise learning through using their gifts. Our expert teachers are ready to share skills with students, help students plan their learning, track how each student is progressing, and respond with extra support as needed.

As the building blocks for all learning, we have a strong focus on Literacy and Numeracy throughout our learning and teaching programs.

Literacy at Our Lady of the Way Catholic Primary Emu Plains

Literacy

Literacy at Our Lady of the Way is an exciting and stimulating time. It is incorporated into the school timetable for a block session. The daily literacy sessions include opportunities for the children to engage in talking, listening, reading and writing activities in a series of whole class, small group, pair and individual experiences.

All students experience a balanced and coherent program of literacy instruction for a minimum of 100 minutes daily. Ask us about some of our engaging literacy approaches including:

  • guided reading
  • reader's circle
  • reciprocal reading
  • modelled, guided and independent writing
Numeracy at Our Lady of the Way Catholic Primary Emu Plains

Numeracy

In our learning community numeracy is presented to our students as being specifically linked to everyday life. Numeracy at Our Lady of the Way is based on the ReaL Maths process (Reflection, Empowerment and Learning), EMU Program (Extended Mathematical Understanding) and each are linked to the NSW Mathematics K-10 Syllabus.

Through reflection, empowerment and learning the emphasis is on mental computations, open-ended tasks, problem solving and investigations. This, coupled with reflection on practice and experiences, challenges our children to become lifelong learners in Mathematics.

All students at Our Lady of the Way engage in numeracy for 60 minutes each day.

We offer a varied curriculum that is engaging and relevant!
